Construction

We work hard to offer you the strongest, longest-lasting tent you can buy. We are so sure of the quality of our work, that we offer a three-year guarantee against defects in materials or workmanship to the original owner. Our seams are flat-felled, which is the strongest kind of seam to join two pieces of fabric together, and all of our raw edges are hemmed or in a seam for durability and strength.

Dimensions listed are the finished sizes, due to the width of the fabrics we use. If you want an exact size (15’ x 15’ for example), let us know and we will custom make it for you.

On all our pavilions, we add an extra strip of canvas along the ridgeline to protect against abrasion from the ridgepole (and metal sleeve, if present). We also add an extra layer of canvas (and in some places, leather) at the peak and corners for added reinforcement, as well as several ties that hold the interior ridgepole in place. Every pole goes through a metal or leather grommet placed through webbing and several layers of canvas.

Our pavilions are seam engineered so that poles always line up with the seams, instead of being placed at regular intervals around the perimeter. This allows for a more rigid and stable set-up of your tent. We don’t believe in cutting corners or sacrificing quality in our tents, because we want to give our customers the highest quality pavilion possible.

Our round and marquee pavilions have wall curtains that hang between two valances for protection from weather. By sandwiching the wall between these two layers, it gives you greater protection from wind and rain entering the tent. Our tents have a standard 8" overlap on the doors, while our marquees have doors that overlap a full 18” and tie on both the inside and outside. We also use heavy-duty canvas peg loops that are reinforced with a hidden layer of webbing for staking the pavilion to the ground.

 Mud Flaps

Ten inch wide mud flaps (often called sod cloths) are a standard feature on all our walls; these are flaps that are attached to the bottom of the walls. They are especially handy on wall and wedge tents, and some people prefer them on their marquee pavilions as well. While some people turn these flaps to the outside to shed rain or snow away from the tent, most people orient them to the inside, and put a ground cloth on top to keep moisture and bugs out. Our mud flaps are segmented, rather than a solid strip, so your perimeter poles sit between, and not on top of them. By making them this way it helps to prevent rotting or tearing, and we feel this extra effort is beneficial to the life and durability of your tent. Please let us know if you don’t want mud flaps added to your pavilion, and we will reinforce the lower edge of your tent walls instead.

 Pole Ties

Pole ties that attach to the perimeter poles for stability in weather are available on our marquees. While you will lose some flexibility in where the doors are placed, they allow you to lower your walls to expose your merchandise while still having some security, or for additional ventilation. If you are interested in this feature, please add 5% to the tent price.

Poles

By special request, we will manufacture a complete selection of poles built specifically for your tent, which are manufactured after the tent has been sewn and measured. All poles are ready for sanding and finishing with oil or paint when we ship them to you. Pricing is based on the size of the tent, and the number of joints needed. All poles over 9 feet must be sectioned and sleeved for shipping due to UPS shipping limits. We will provide you with plans for your own poles if you prefer.

 Metal pole sleeves

While most people have access to wood for poles, metal pole sleeves are often another matter. It can be hard to find a metal sleeve that will allow you to section your poles to make transporting them easier. We stock welded metal sleeves for our tents, which are available for $50 each with the purchase of a tent, and $65 otherwise.

 Rope

We use manila rope for all exterior ropes on the tent, which is the best for a proper historical look. We stock 3/8" and 1/2" for use in our guylines - the larger size is used for weather lines (high wind lines).
